Kickstarter and More

Wow has it been a month. Not all great, but we are all going through struggles, so I won’t pretend mine is unique or devastating. It’s just life, but it’s still painful at times.

Willow, my broody black hen whom I named after Willow in my dystopian series, hatched a lovely gray little chick. None of the other eggs hatched and had to be disposed. Two weeks after the chick hatched, something got in the coop house and killed Willow and we are assuming ate the chick. Yesterday, my paint gelding, Frost, punctured his eye. I had just brought Ruby Doo home from the vet after being spayed when I saw his eye, so I immediately started him on antibiotics and pain meds, which he will have to have for the next 7-10 days.

To add insult to injury, I went to mow the lawn as the chiggers are HORRIBLE this year, and the carburetor blew up. It doesn’t appear that it damaged the engine, but the new carburetor won’t be here until Friday, along with the starter for my little boat. When it rains, it pours I guess.

While all of this is going on, my first Kickstarter was launched but instead of promoting and focusing on raising the backing to get End of Crows into a screenplay, I’ll be doctoring animals and fixing machines. It’s during these times I try to remind myself that everything happens for a reason.

In the meantime, I am excited about the 4th of July, as my hubby gets a longer weekend, we bought our groceries for the week and I get to smoke and grill baby back ribs, make my famous potato salad and enjoy the peace of the Arkansas mountains at our lovely, secluded ranch. I hope everyone has a safe holiday and that it’s filled with laughter, good food shared with family and friends!
